The term "geography" originates from the Greek words "Geo" which means the earth and "Graph" which means to describe. Therefore geography can be defined as the portrayal of the earth. However geography goes beyond simply describing the earth; it is the examination of the earth's surface including its topography climate physical conditions and their impacts on people and society.
